the house, studio and garden

Half Acre cottageHalf Acre is an old stone cottage, recently extended and renovated, with two studios, set in an acre of gardens at the top of Boscastle, Cornwall.

The house provides a permanent display of Carole Vincent's paintings and sculpture and all around the garden there are concrete sculptures, occupying small enclosed places, commanding a view, glimpsed around a corner, part of the landscape they occupy.

Twelve Good MenIn 1994, Carole was exploring the potential of pigments in concrete and wanted to prove it would work in a garden setting.

The Blue circle GardenThe result is the contemporary Blue Circle Garden which was the inspiration for a show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2001.

There are two studios: one converted from the old pighouse to provide a general purpose workshop for painters and sculptors and the other a purpose built workshop for Carole's concrete works but shared for the occasional concrete courses.

Here she is well equipped to produce large commissioned sculpture up to 1.5 tonnes and small works with concrete mixed in Kenwood mixers.
